Jack Marcus (Clive Owen) is a high school English teacher, slowly drinking his life away. He is becoming more and more distressed with his students who only seem to care about social media. His world is rocked when Dina Delsanto (Juliette Binoche), a semi-famous artist suffering from debilitating arthritis and unable to physically paint, comes to teach at the school. They engage in a battle between "words" and "pictures". Jack feels that pictures could never replace the emotion and depth of the English language. They spar over their differences until Jack challenges Dina to a contest to decide which medium truly is the most powerful. The students become engaged in the contest and quickly choose sides in this battle. As the conflict grows, a love begins to blossom between these two creative people.
Finally a romantic comedy for adults! This is such a smart movie. Even as Jack does some really stupid things under the influence of alcohol, you are pulling for him to shape up and jump at the chance for love. This movie is funny and challenging. Clive and Juliette are such great actors and luckily they are given a script worthy of them! Definitely go see it!!
