Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) is a Fish and Wildlife tracker in the beautiful but often frozen Wyoming back country. Out looking for a predator lion, he stumbles across a young woman, barefoot and bloody, dead in the snow on the Wind River Indian Reservation. He calls for backup. FBI Agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) arrives, raw and unprepared for the cold and the jurisdictional conflicts that soon arise. Jane and Cory team up to investigate. It seems that Cory has a similar tragic past and knows the ins and outs of the Indian people. As the leads dry up and the tension heats up between the locals and the the outsiders, Cory and Jane must work together to solve this murder before anyone else gets hurt.

This is a great movie written and directed by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario and Hell or High Water). It starts with a bang and keeps you guessing throughout. Taylor Sheridan has a great feel for the atmosphere and the bitter feelings that many Indians still have today. They want to cling to their only remaining birthright and continue to live on their reservations even when that might not be in their best interest. There are many Native Americans in the cast including Graham Greene and Gil Birmingham. Everyone does a great job. The Wyoming wilderness (I think it was actually filmed in Utah..) is stark, beautiful and unforgiving. It is like another character. Overall, a tense and suspenseful thriller. Well done. Go see it.
