Runs 119 minutes

This movie is based on the true story of Pinchot Tibor Rosenbaum (Jonas Armstrong, called Elek Cohen in the movie) and how he pretended to be a German soldier to save Jews during WWII in Hungary.  It is 1944 and Hungary has aligned with Germany for political purposes. However, Regent of Hungary, Horthy (Ben Kingsley) is aghast at what is happening to the Jews and refuses to go along with German command. He is undercut by the head of one of the Hungarian factions which aligns itself with the Germans.  Jews are rounded up and shipped to Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Elek does everything in his power to help divert those Jews and protect them from deportation until the Allies arrive.

This is a good movie. It is a story that is worthy of being told. They added a love story to bookend the actual horror of what was going on and it kept my interest. At the end, they have pictures of the real people and how they were all involved in the effort to protect the Jews. In the end, over 500,000 Hungarian Jews were sent to concentration camps. It was such a sad time in history. If you like historical movies, then this is probably right up your alley.  Worth the 2 hours.
