Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special space agents sent to Planet Alpha to investigate a mysterious force that seems to be inhabiting a restricted area of the planet and to retrieve a special "converter". Alpha is a huge international metropoiis, made up of thousands of species and a thousand planets. Once they arrive, they report to Commander Arun Filitt (Clive Owen) to help with the investigation. Only, it seems that there may be more going on than they had anticipated. A whole race of Aliens, thought to be extinct, may be at the center of a cover-up. And, it appears that this "converter" is at the center of all of the intrigue.

This is the new film by Luc Besson. It is a wild ride. I actually liked it a lot more than I thought I would. In fact, I thought I wouldn't like it at all. But I did. It is colorful and action-packed. All of the creatures are so creative. With cameos by Ethan Hawke (playing against type, he is great) and Rihanna, it is a fun time. It is just a tad too long but it is never boring. I enjoyed it. It had a unique storyline and great characters. I liked Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. I thought their sparring was cute and funny. The film maintained a light tone, with plenty of humor. It doesn't take itself too seriously which makes it a good summer popcorn flick. Go see it.
