This is the true story of Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) an Olympic athlete who survives a near-fatal plane crash in WWII only to be left adrift at sea for 47 days. Eventually, he is captured by the Japanese and taken to a POW camp. There hs is tortured and brutally beaten by a sadistic Japanese prison guard. He survives the war "Unbroken" and returns home a hero.

This movie is both amazing and harrowing. However, it is all a little dull. The story is fantastic but the movie seems to lack any spark. The 47 days at sea are brutal and you can just feel how hungry and dehydrated he must be. Then the torture scenes are brutal. But, the whole movie seems to be told in an observational tone. It should have felt more engaging. It could have been great because Louis Zamperini has a great story that needs to be told. It was just a little above average. I still say see it because it is such a good story.
