Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) was one of Hollywood's top screenwriters in the late 1940'S. When his Communist political leanings became known, he was blacklisted and jailed when he refused to expose others in the Party. Once he was out of jail, he was forced to work for smaller studios under assumed names. Eventually, he went on to win two Academy Awards, ultimately helping to expose the hypocrisy of the Blacklist and finally ending it altogether.

I thought this was a fascinating story. I didn't really know much about who was actually targeted in Hollywood by the Blacklist. Many were questioned, blacklisted and even jailed. Edward G. Robinson (Michael Stuhlbarg) testified before Congress and named names but still struggled to work. Kirk Douglas, John Wayne and Hedda Hopper were also entangled in the whole Blacklist affair in different ways. This movie does a nice job of showing the effect on Trumbo and his wife (Diane Lane) and kids. Overall, a pretty interesting film. Go see it.
