Runs 119 minutes

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) and his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) are pioneers in the field of Artificial Intelligence.  They are working closely with their best friend Max (Paul Bettany) to create a machine that is not only intelliegent but possesses emotion, almost like a soul. They want to cure the planet, help the sick and make all things better. Unfortunately, they have also drawn the wrath of an anti-technology group, RIFT, that is determined to stop them before the world is so completely dependent on technology that it can never unplug. They plan a coordinated attack on several A.I. labs across the country and one RIFT operator is able to fire a radioactive bullet at Will, ensuring his death. Before he succumbs to the radioactive poison, Evelyn and Max upload his consciousness to a computer. However, no one was able to foresee that his consciousness (is it really him?) would grow to eventually inhabit all computers and electrical systems on the planet and would have to be destroyed.

If this sounds complicated it is.  It is also fairly boring for such a unique concept. I thought this was a very average movie.  I thought Johnny Depp was dull and I didn't feel particularly attached to any of the characters.  I guess i just didn't buy the premise and was disappointed overall in the movie. I would wait and rent the DVD.
