Jill's Review

Opens December 12, 2014

Runs 102 minutes

A comedian, Andre Allen (Chris Rock) is trying to make it as a serious actor. His movie about a Haitian slave uprising is about to open and the New York Times has sent a reporter, Chelsea Brown (Rosario Dawson) to spend the day with Andre to get a story for their paper. On the West coast, his reality star fiance Erica (Gabrielle Union) has coerced Andre into having their wedding, including bachelor party and other planning, broadcast on T.V. for all to see. As the stress of the movie opening and the wedding build, Chelsea and Andre walk around New York as she interviews him for her story. Will he be able to maintain his sobriety in the wake of all of this stress? Will his movie be a hit? Will he make it to his fairy tale wedding? Will he ever be funny again?

This movie is really funny. It is very crude and the language is terrible, but if you can stomach that it is a pretty good movie. Chris Rock wrote the screenplay and directs himself in this comedy. There are some hilarious cameos by Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart and even Jerry Seinfeld. Chris lets them all do their thing and shine. And, Chris Rock is really good and very funny in this film. It has been a while since I have really liked him in a movie. If only the language and a couple of other scenes weren't so over the top, this could have been a great movie. Overall, I laughed out loud and would recommend it for adults who know what they are in for.
