Runs 93 minutes

It is 1630 and a Puritan family has been banished from the Colonial Plantation and sent to eke out an existence on the edge of the perilous forest. Wiiliam (Ralph Ineson) and Katherine (Kate Dickie) live a pious life with their five children. Maybe a little too pious and that is what got them banished. As the older children, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Caleb (Harvey Scrimshaw) struggle to help with the younger kids and the chores, they are becoming slightly disillusioned. Then, one day when Thomasin is watching the baby, it mysteriously disappears. Immediately, she comes under suspicion as the younger twins claim that she is a witch. Soon the crops fail and the family is falling apart at the seams. This only leaves them more vulnerable to the real evil lurking in the forest.

This is a pretty creepy movie. It is not like a typical horror movie, it is more subtle. And,**spoiler alert** there is some violence involving the animals which always makes me more on edge. I did like it a lot. It is very different from the typical horror fare offered up in the dead of winter. The fact that they are so religious really plays a part in their unraveling. The ending left me a little unhappy, but overall I liked this movie. I love horror films and I liked that this was different. And, Black Phillip, the possessed ram was pretty disturbing - he did a great job for a possessed animal! If you like horror films, check this one out!!
