Russell Crowe is Connor, an Australian Farmer that sends his three sons off to war. in 1915, after the Battle of Gallipoli, his sons are all missing and presumed dead. After his wife's suicide from anguish over her sons, he sets out for Turkey to bring the bodies of his sons home to be buried near their mother. In Istanbul he meets Ayshe (Olga Kurylenko) and her son at the hotel where he is staying. Her husband is also missing and presumed dead although, she refuses to believe it. Connor bonds with her son as he searches for a way to be allowed onto Gallipoli to search for his sons' bodies. In flashbacks, we see the ravages of war and the brother's determination to stay together throughout the fight. Can Connor discover what happened to them and bring them home where they belong?

This is based on a true story. I didn't really know the history of the Australians being sent to Gallipoli to fight the Turks and the huge losses that occurred during that battle. Gallipoli was basically a graveyard. This movie won several major Australian awards and I expected it to be great. I was just a little disappointed. It was so slow and somber. Everyone was good in the film and the historical aspects were very interesting to me. But, overall, I thought the movie was good, not great. If you like war movies or movies based on true stories, I would still recommend this one, just don't go if you are sleepy...
