Maggie (Kristen Wiig) and Milo (Bill Hader) are estranged twins with troubled pasts. They are reunited when Milo attempts suicide and the hospital calls Maggie as his closest relative. She flies to L.A. and convinces Milo to come back to New York with her to recuperate. Of course, she fails to tell him that the call from the hospital stopped her from taking a handful of pills herself. These two are pretty messed up. Maggie is married to Lance (Luke Wilson) the nicest, most easy going jock on the planet, a direct opposite of gay Milo. Lance just wants everyone to be happy. But, no one really is. Slowly, the twins begin to reconnect. They have a horrible (but very funny) visit from their distant mother. They perform a hilarious lip sync routine to "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" and they try to restore the bond they had when they were children. It is obvious that they were deeply affected by their Father's death and the "event" that caused their estrangement. Slowly, they realize that in order to move forward they must repair their relationship with each other first.
This is a funny, sad and deeply affecting movie. Trainer Joe and the Husband both liked it but I loved it. I thought the casting was fantastic and there is great chemistry between all of the actors. This is definitely a break out role for Bill Hader. Kristen Wiig and Luke Wilson are both terrific, too. This movie will not appeal to everyone due to it's dark subject matter but I found it to be very original and moving. And, it is really funny in parts. I really recommend this to anyone who likes something just a little different.
