This film picks up where the Original left off.  The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is fully booked and Sonny (Dev Patel) has dreams of expanding. Together with Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) they travel to America to try to secure funding for the Second Hotel. They are sent back to India to await word from the Investors. Meanwhile, a "spy" for the Investors will be visiting the hotel and judging whether the investment is worth it or not. Immediately, two guests show up Guy (Richard Gere) and Lavinia (Tamsin Greig) and Sonny is sure one of them is the "spy". He spends his time trying to impress them while he also prepares for his impending nuptials to his fiance. He feels thwarted when an old friend appears and seems to be moving in on Sonny's business. Meanwhile, the guests of the hotel, (all returning from the original - Judy Dench, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle) have adjusted to Indian culture, found jobs and moved on in their love lives. Will Sonny be able to pull of the expansion and his wedding while keeping all of his guests happy?

This movie is very cute. The Original film was just so much fun getting to know the characters. Now, we are familiar with everyone so it is not quite so novel. It is still funny and engaging. There is quite a bit going on in the film and a lot of characters to keep up with.  You really wish you could spend more time with each one, but then again the movie begins to feel long at over 2 hours. If you loved the first one, you shouldn't miss this one. You won't be disappointed, just a little nostalgic for how unique the Original film was. And, Richard Gere still looks good so there is that to look forward to....!
