Runs 80 minutes

A man is ship-wrecked and washed ashore on a small deserted island. He tries to build a raft to sail away but is thwarted every time by a red turtle. He is desolate and deflated until the red turtle comes to shore and becomes a beautiful red-haired woman. He and the woman fall in love, have a son and live out their days on the deserted island in love and contentment.

I went to see this movie because it is nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated film. I thought it looked cute but might be a little boring since there is no dialogue. I was wrong. I loved this beautiful, simple, sweet animated tale. The animation is gorgeous. I could feel the wind blowing and the waves crashing onto the shore. I loved the sea creatures, especially the little crabs who were so cute and funny. The story is pretty simple but it is also so touching. There are a few incidents of animals dying in the natural course of life and a threatening storm but otherwise it is just fine for kids. Again, there is no dialogue. It is a visual feast based on a fairy-tale like story of love and family and the circle of life. A definite must-see. Go see it!
