It is 1977 in Los Angeles and P.I. Holland March (Ryan Gosling) has just been hired to find a missing porn star, Misty Mountains. HIs investigation soon leads him to a young woman named Amelia (Margaret Qualley) and right into the brass knuckles of Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe), a less refined pseudo P.I. They soon realize that they might be involved in some kind of conspiracy as Amelia disappears and other violent players get involved. Holland and Jackson team up, against their better judgement, and soon find themselves dodging bullets and dead bodies. Holland's precocious young daughter Holly (Angourie Rice) turns out to be an astute P.I.-in-training as she joins in on the search for Amelia and Misty. And, then the government gets involved and soon the conspiracy theory seems to be no longer a theory. Will they find Misty and Amelia before it is too late?

This movie is action-packed craziness. Who knew Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe were such comedic talents with great chemistry. The plot is a little crazy and far-fetched and the language is pretty bad but overall, the movie is just so fun. The humor might not be for everyone, but the Husband and I both laughed out loud and had a good time. And, you have to admit that Misty Mountains is a great name for a porn star! HA! If you like films steeped in atmosphere and a decent detective story with plenty of humor, then this might be for you. Go see it.
