A group of astronauts are on a mission on Mars when thay are forced to abort due to a terrible storm. Unfortunately, one of their team, Mark Watney (Matt Damon), is presumed dead and left behind. But, Mark is alive and alone. He must use every skill that he has to produce food and water to keep himself alive as he tries to contact NASA. Once he does make contact, everyone is ecstatic that he is alive. There is just one small problem - how do they bring "The Martian" back home to Earth?

This is a great movie! It is not as awe-inspiring as Gravity, but it is more human and funny. Matt Damon is terrific. He carries a lot of the movie by himself as he logs in his daily activities. This is much more entertaining than it sounds. The movie is long but it never feels like it drags. There are some really neat sci-fi scenes using zero gravity. And, the space ship is pretty cool - it has a whole gym in it. The all-star cast includes Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Kristin Wiig and Donald Glover. Everyone was great. The subject matter was heavy, but the overall movie was fast-paced and humorous. And, it gives you a real appreciation for astronauts and space travel. These people are smart! Loved the film. Go see it.
