Jill's Review

Opens February 20, 2015
Runs 94 minutes
This movie is based on the Off-Broadway musical of the same name. Cathy (Anna Kendrick) is an aspiring actress. She meets Jamie (Jeremy Jordan) an aspiring writer. They fall in love. The movie follows the deconstruction of their love and marriage over a five year time period. And, it is done almost completely in song. Cathy's songs begin at the end of their relationship and move backward in time. Jamie's songs begin at the beginning of their relationship and move forward in time. It might sound a little confusing but it is pretty easy to follow the nature of their relationship and what ultimately drove them apart.
I am a sucker for Broadway musicals and I loved this movie. Anna and Jeremy are fabulous singers and I couldn't take my eyes off of them. The whole movie is done in song. There are very few spoken lines. Eventually, I didn't even notice. The songs conveyed their emotions perfectly. If you like musicals and watching pretty people sing their hearts out, this is for you. Go see it!
