Nelly (Felicity Jones) becomes "invisible" when she begins a relationship with Charles Dickens (Ralph Fiennes) when she is only 18 and he is a married father of 10.  Their affair lasted 13 years and for all of that time, she went unacknowledged by the public. Nelly came from a family of actors with limited means and had few options for her future.  Her mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) helps her to realize that Charles is taken with her and that at least with him, she would have a place to live and the things she needs. It is a sometimes lonely existence, sharing Charles with his "real" family.  She is still haunted by this relationship, even after she marries and has a family of her own.

This is an interesting film from a historical perspective.  Great acting and worth watching.
