Jill's Review

Opens December 25, 2015 (in 70MM only)

Runs 168 minutes (with a 12 minute intermission)

It is post-civil war Wyoming in the middle of a blizzard. Bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) is transporting Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to Red Rock for a $10,000 bounty and to watch her hang.  Along the way they pick up fellow bounty hunter Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), supposedly the new Sheriff of Red Rock. Due to the storm, they are forced to seek shelter at Minnie's Haberdashery, where they encounter Bob (Demian Bichir), Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), Joe Gage (Michael Madsen) and General Sandy Smithers (Bruce Dern). All is not what it seems and it soon becomes apparent that more than one person in that room has other plans for how the night will end. Who will survive?

This movie is brutal, violent, bloody and very funny. It is a Western, a thriller and a mystery all rolled into one 3 hour movie. I saw it in 70 mm panavision with a 12 minute intermission. The cinematography is gorgeous and the music ebbs and swells and really provides the tension that builds along with the film. I am not fan of Quentin Tarrantino personally, but he makes good movies. This is one of his best. I really have to give a shoutout for Jennifer Jason Leigh who got chained up, punched, bloodied, vomited on, had hot stew thrown in her face and was one big filthy mess for the entire film. She was marvelous. As was the entire cast. This movie was long but never boring. It kept you guessing and even threw in a few surprises that were very unexpected. If you can stomach the blood and gore, then go see it!!
