In Los Angeles, humans and puppets live together. However, puppets aren't treated with the same respect as humans. Phil Phillips (voiced by Bill Barretta) used to be a Police detective but after an incident, he was kicked off of the Force. Now he is a lowly P.I. One day Sandra (voiced by Dorien Davies) hires Phil to investigate mysterious extortion letters she has been receiving. This leads to the discovery of a string of murders of the puppet cast of an old T.V. series called the Happytime Gang. Now, Phil is forced to work with his old Police partner Detective Edwards (Melissa McCarthy). They must put aside old resentments to solve the murders before anyone else gets hurt.

I did not think that this movie looked very good from the trailers. I was right. It is very rude and crude. It plays more like an old film noir detective story. I did not find it funny nor did I really care who was killing off the puppets. I maybe laughed once or twice but mostly I just cringed. Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph (as Bubbles, Phil's secretary) try very hard to make this movie work but it just doesn't. They are trying way too hard. And, most of the scenes just drag the jokes out way too long. The best part of the film (apart from it being over) is in the credits when you see all of the people wearing green suits running around and making the puppets come to life. That was pretty entertaining. Anyway, DO NOT waste your time on this movie. Skip it.
