War veteran David Collins (Dan Stevens) shows up at the Peterson's house. He claims he was their son Caleb's friend and he was with him when he died. He is invited into their home and their lives. Afterall, that is him in the picture on the mantle with their son and his team. Conveniently, strange things begin to happen that help various members of the Peterson Clan. The bullies who are picking on the son Luke (Brendan Meyer) are quickly put in their place, as is daughter Anna's (Maika Monroe) drugged out boyfriend. Only after Anna begins to question David's identity and the black suburbans show up to find David, do things get really crazy. Is this guest really David Collins or a psychopath out for some kind of revenge?
I love these cheesy, crazy, almost slasher-but-not-quite kind of movies. The pacing is fast and ends up in a crazy, haunted house with mazes and mirrors and things that go bump in the night. Dan Stevens (a Josh Lucas look-a-like) is great as the soldier who may or may not have a lot to hide. HIs face is so expressive. The women love him until his eyes turn cold at the blink of a hat. If you like thriller/horror movies that are just out to provide cheesy fun, this is for you. It won't win an Oscar and there are a few loose ends, but it ultimately satisfies!
