Denzel Washington is Robert McCall, a former secret operative trying to live a quiet and uncomplicated life. However, his past skills are called into use when those around him are wronged, especially when a young prostitute he has befriended (Chloë Grace Moretz) is being brutalized by Russian gangsters. He feels that he can no longer hide in his retirement and his need for vengeance is renewed. He becomes a one-man wrecking crew for the oppressed. He is the Equalizer.
I was really looking forward to this movie. So was Trainer Joe (and the Husband, too!). We were all slightly disappointed. Denzel is terrific and worth the price of admission, as always. But, there was something missing from the narrative. There was only a slight back story provided and it was up to the audience to fill in the blanks. The rest of the movie was all Denzel in kill mode. There were some creative deaths (I know the Husband will be more careful with his tree trimmer) and everyone got what was coming to them and then some. It was just missing any emotion. Still, if you like action flicks, this has plenty to spare.
