In 1996, Rolling Stone Magazine assigned David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) to interview David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel) right after his acclaimed novel Infinite Jest was published. Lipsky, a novelist himself (although much less acclaimed) joined David Foster Wallace for the last five days of his book tour. He stayed at his house and traveled with him to Minnesota, interviewing him along the way. Lipsky was a little in awe of David's talent but in the end, he learned that he was just a man like every other man with flaws and weaknesses. This movie is based on Lipsky's book chronicling the time they spent together.

This is a really great film. Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg are both superb. Generally, I find Jesse Eisenberg to be a little neurotic and twitchy but I thought he was perfect in this role. And, Jason was a revelation. He is usually lumpy and funny. Here he was intelligent and thoughtful with quite a lot to say. Lipsky interviews David Foster Wallace but the movie turns into friends having a conversation. They seemed natural and genial with each other. There were some bumps along the way when Lipsky touched on delicate subjects but they seemed able to navigate through to the end of the interview. This movie is very talky but never boring. And, it is funny, touching and a nice ode to the life of David Foster Wallace. Go see it!
