Bianca (Mae Whitman) is a high school senior with two best friends, Casey and Jess and what she thinks is an average position in the high school pecking order. When she finds out that people actually see her as the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her pretty and popular best friends, she goes into a funk. Then she decides to take action and agrees to help her next door neighbor, the gorgeous high school quarterback Wesley (Robbie Amell), with chemistry if he will help her with her social life. Along the way, she learns that she has plenty to offer and that everyone is a DUFF in one way or another.

This movie is like a cross between Mean Girls and Easy A. It is very funny. Mae Whitman is a great actress and Robbie Amell is pretty easy on the eyes. Bella Thorne plays the one true mean girl and she is perfectly cast. The teachers are great. The Journalism teacher is played by Ken Jeong and he makes me laugh no matter what he does. There is a sweet heart at the center of the movie. It takes Bianca a while to figure out that she can be herself and still be strong and confident. I really enjoyed this film. It isn't really deep but it is enjoyable and funny. There is some adult subject matter so I wouldn't take the younger kids, but it is pretty tame and fun overall. I say go see it.
