Runs 135 minutes

Based on true events, this is the story of a police magistrate in France, Pierre Michel (Jean Dujardin), who spends years trying to take down one of the largest Drug Cartels in France - The French Connection. Pierre Michel starts small by arresting some of the peripheral characters, then moves on to some of the main players. He isn't afraid to arrest first and find the evidence later. He wants the Connection, which runs through France, Europe and into the United States taken down. Eventually, he stumbles upon a group of corrupt cops who are protecting the big cheese, Gaetan "Tany" Zampa (Gilles Lellouche). Michel and Tany play almost a catch me if you can game. Only, whoever blinks first will end up dead. Risking his life and health and even his relationship with his family, Michel works relentlessly with his hand-picked team to bring down Tany Zampa and end this flow of drugs.

This is a fascinating movie. It is in French so you will have to read subtitles, but it is totally worth it. This takes place in the 1970's, so the cars and clothing and even police processes are circa 1970. It is amazing how good the period details are in this film. It took a little while to figure out the French police/magistrate/judge process but it is very interesting to see it put to work. This all takes place in Marseilles France and the scenery is spectacular. It is almost hard to believe that there was this much crime in such a beautiful paradise. The story is a very violent one. Tany Zampa ran the Marseilles mafia and this was their primary income. He wasn't afraid to take down anyone in his way. So, don't expect a happy ending. But, the movie is so involving and good, I still say go see it!!
