Runs 99 minutes

Adam Sandler is Max Simkin, a neigborhood cobbler reluctantly running the family business after his father's disappearance. He lives at home and takes care of his ailing mother then heads to work every day. He re-soles shoes, never really noticing the people in the neighborhood who drop off shoes for repair. The neighborhood is slowly being gentrified and the small family-run businesses are closing. Carmen Herrera (Melonie Diaz) is leading the charge to try to stop the slow runoff of these businesses. Max has no interest. He might even sell for the right price. That is until he discovers a magical sewing machine in the basement of the shop. Soon, he really discovers what it means to walk in someone else's shoes and this opens his eyes to what is happening in his neighborhood.

I liked this movie more than most of the critics. It is not a pure silly comedy like a typical Adam Sandler movie. It has funny parts, but it is a drama. I thought it was an interesting story and It has lots of great actors in it - Ellen Barkin, Steve Buscemi, Dustin Hoffman, Dan Stevens and "Method Man". It kept my interest and I was involved in trying to figure out how it was going to end. Some of the plot points are a little ridiculous and a few things are obvious very early on, but it is still a decent movie that kept my interest. If you like Adam Sandler in his more serious roles, you might give this one a chance.
