Runs 110 minutes

When Mae (Emma Watson) finally lands her dream job at the Circle, an ultra-connected, high-tech company, she couldn't be more thrilled. She jumps all-in. Soon, she is moving up the ranks. Then, she is selected by the leaders of the Circle, Mr. Bailey (Tom Hanks ) and Mr. Stenton (Patton Oswalt) to become the first fully transparent person on earth. She agrees to wear a camera at all times and to connect with all of her followers. She revels in the experience. She becomes popular and thinks she is really making the world a more open and truthful place. But, slowly she starts to feel the effect of her lack of privacy. And, then tragedy strikes and she realizes that maybe all of this technology is more detrimental to those around her than she thought. Maybe being a part of the Circle isn't as great as she once thought.

This movie is entertaining and thought-provoking. But, it is also a little irritating. Parts of it are predictable. Then, the ending just falls flat. The Husband, Gym Friend and I all felt like there needed to be five more minutes of some kind of explanaton at the end. We thought it left us all hanging and not in a good way. But, we did talk about it all through dinner. It opens your eyes to where technology could be headed and how invasive it will be (as if it isn't already). Everyone was fine in the film - it was a really great cast. I thought John Boyega was wasted. I was expecting a little more from his character. I loved seeing Bill Paxton and Glenn Headly as Mae's parents. The film did give you lots to think about and it wasn't ever really boring. It just didn't quite resolve. So, if you have some spare time, you might go see a matinee. Or wait for the dvd.
