Runs 117 minutes

Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) is an orphan. One night, she is abducted from her bed by a giant (Mark Rylance).  At first she is afraid but soon comes to learn that the giant she affectionately calls BFG (Big Friendly Giant), is just a 24 foot tall gentle and nice person. However, her presence soon causes the other giants to try to seek her out. Those giants don't like BFG, he is a runt and he refuses to eat children. Sophie and BFG must work together to deal with the dangerous giants.

Since this was directed by Steven Spielberg, I had high hopes. The film did not live up to my expectations. The first hour was very slow. I thought Ruby Barnhill did a fine job and Mark Rylance was very good. The film was just a little slow and lacking humor and excitement. The second hour picks up. And, once they decide to ask the Queen (Penelope Wilton) for help, the movie shows a little life and humor. The CGI/special effects were pretty neat. But, overall a little dull for me. Fine for the family but there are better films (like Finding Dory) for the kids. Not bad, just not great.
