Spider-Man 2 is the follow-up film to the 2012 reboot of the series starring Andrew Garfield as Spidey. The sequel begins with a flashback to Peter Parker's parents dropping Peter off with his aunt and uncle and trying to escape with secret OsCorp files. Then we jump ahead about 10 years and see Peter happily web-slinging around as Spiderman. On his way to graduation, he fights off a notorious Russian criminal, Alexsei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti). He barely makes it in time to walk across the stage, collect his diploma and meet up with his sweetie, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Of course, he is still conflicted about Gwen because he promised her Dad (Denis Leary, who pops up occasionally even though he is dead) that he wouldn't involve her in his Spidey life.
Over at OsCorp, Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) is about to inherit the company from his father Norman (Chris Cooper) who is dying from a deadly virus, that he passes on to his son. Down in the trenches, a timid scientist who never gets credit for his ideas, Max (Jamie Foxx) is accidentally electrocuted while fixing some faulty circuits and ends up able to harness electricity, thus becoming Electro. Once the OsCorp executives realize what happened, they shuttle Electro off to Ravencroft Institute to hide him from prying eyes. Young Harry discovers that he has the same virus as his dad and when Spidey won't donate his blood to him, he is determined to take it from him. Before he can follow through, OsCorp is taken out from under him by an evil executive, Donald Menken (Colm Feore). Harry is forced to recruit Electro to seek his revenge and get his Spidey blood. Spiderman and Electro face off with lives in the balance just as Spidey realizes his love for Gwen.
I loved this movie. I did think it was a tad too long but overall I love Spiderman. I like that he is funny and really cares about what he sees as his responsibilty for mankind. I think Andrew and Emma have fabulous chemistry. The movie is charming and action packed, but also makes you feel for the characters. It is not all noise like some Superhero movies but there is a lot going on in this movie and the next villian is introduced before the end of the movie. Stay for the credits to see some scenes from the upcoming X-Men movie.
