Alice Howland (Julianne Moore) is a renowned linguistics professor and author. She is happily married to John (Alec Baldwin) and has raised three successful children, Anna (Kate Bosworth), Charlie (Shane McRae) and Lydia (Kristen Stewart). When she starts noticing that she can't always remember the right words for things, she goes to see a neurologist expecting that she might have a brain tumor. What she learns is even worse - early onset Alzheimer's. The family gathers and their bonds are tested as she slowly succumbs to this terrible disease.
This is a gut-wrenching movie. It is about a family knocked to it's knees by Alice's diagnosis. Julianne Moore is superb as she slowly loses her independence. (It's no wonder that she is the front runner for the best actress Oscar.) It will leave you in tears as the family slowly watches her deteriorate while they must move forward living their lives. It is such a good movie. Go see it and take Kleenex.
