The Spotlight team at the Boston Globe is a small group that chooses and researches its own stories, sometimes taking over a year to produce their final product. When a new Editor arrives (Liev Schreiber) he strongly suggests that a budding scandal involving a Priest molesting children might be just the thing for the Spotlight team. Walter "Robby" Robinson (Michael Keaton) heads up the team and brings them the lead. Eventually, Mike Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Sacha Pfeiffer (Rachel McAdams) and Matt Carroll (Brian D'Arcy James) get on board and start their investigation. They were not prepared for everything they found. This turned into a story of wide-spread molestation and cover-up at the highest levels of the Boston Archdiocese which eventually rocked the entire Catholic Church.

This is my favorite movie so far and my first five star review for 2015. It is that time of year when the Oscar films start showing up in theatres. Who would have thought that a movie about researching and writing an expose for the Boston Globe could be so fascinating but that is just what this movie is. It is suspenseful and smart. It is entertaining and well-acted. And, it is important. It is amazing how far-reaching the Priest scandal was just in Boston alone. It impacted so many people in the area. As the movie states, 53% of the Globe's readers were Catholics so this could not be taken iightly. This film is just so amazing. Go see it. You will enjoy it and also probably learn a thing or two (maybe things you might not even want to know - but so worth it!)
