Boxer Billy Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) grew up on the streets with a quick temper and a violent streak. But with the love and devotion of his wife Maureen (Rachel McAdams) and daughter Leila (Oona Laurence), he was able to overcome his past and go on to become a champion prize fighter. Now he is on top of the world until it all comes crashing down in a terrible tragedy that claims the life of his wife. Soon, he loses everything, including custody of the daughter he loves. Billy is forced to confront his inner demons and pick up the pieces of his shattered life if he ever hopes to get his daughter back. With the help of a grizzled old fighter, Tick Wills (Forest Whitaker), Billy starts to reclaim his life. Will he be able to get back on his feet and be reunited with his daughter?

We loved this movie. Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing. He completely transformed himself into Billy the Boxer. You can feel the love between Billy, Maureen and their daughter Leila. And, the heartbreak when tragedy occurs. The fight scenes are brutal, bloody and urgent. You feel like you are in the ring cheering for Billy. But, this is more than just a boxing movie. It is an emotional journey - heartbreaking and exhilarating. It is about love, fatherhood and overcoming the odds. And boxing. Go see it!
