This film is nominated for Best Animated Film at this year's Oscars.

Ben lives with his Mom and Dad on the cliffs above the sea. His Mom tells him stories of fairies and elves and sea creatures. When his sister Saoirse is born, his mother disappears. Ben's father is in a daze and Ben is left to mind his sister, with the help of the family dog. But, as his sister grows, she never speaks. She watches the ocean and seems to commune with the seals. Eventually, the grandmother takes the children to live with her because she feels they are too isolated. Saoirse runs away and Ben follows her. He discovers that she is a Selkie a legendary creature who transforms from seal to human. It turns out that their Mother was one also and now Saoirse must help free these special creatures that have been trapped in the human world.

This is a cute movie. It is visually stunning. The animation is very detailed, but quite different from what American kids usually see. I thought the film was well done and I can see why it has been nominated but personally, I liked the Lego movie better which didn't get a nomination. I like a little more action and humor. This was just sweet and steady. If you are an animation fan, then go see it. It is perfect for kids, too.
