Runs 91 minutes

Mary Portman (Naomi Watts) is a child psychologist, practicing out of her home in the middle of nowhere. She and her husband have a very troubled child (her stepson) Stephen (Charlie Heaton). When he is expelled from school, they feel that he must be enrolled in a strict boarding school in order to help him with his issues. Unfortunately, on the way to school, Mary's husband is killed and Stephen is gravely injured in a car accident. Now, Mary must care for a wheelchair-bound and catatonic Stephen as she tries to maintain her practice and move on with her life. She begins to counsel a troubled deaf boy named Tom (Jacob Tremblay) and feels an affinity for his situation. When his life is suddenly in danger, she must find a way to rescue him before it is too late.

I liked this movie more than I should have. There are some definite ridiculous situations - a terrible snowstorm, roadside accidents, no phone service, etc... But, that just makes for laughs and suspense. I thought the movie kept me guessing and there was a nice little twist at the end. I kind of guessed that might be where this film was headed, but it was still scares and chills getting there. If you can overlook a little silliness and you like a nice, suspenseful film, then this might be for you. I mean Naomi Watts is in it. That should be enough for a matinee.
