Samba Cissé (Omar Cy) moved to France ten years ago from Senegal hoping to make a better life for himself and to be able to send money home to his mother. He is a hard worker and longs to be a chef. However, he is forced to work in low level jobs due to his illegal immigration status. So, he takes any kitchen jobs available, hoping to increase his kitchen and cooking skills. Until he finds himself being held in a detention facility for lack of working papers. Alice (Charlotte Gainsbourg) has had an epic meltdown and is on leave from her high-level job. She begins volunteering at the detention facility, hoping to help these immigrants. She meets Samba and is immediately drawn to his humor and determination to make something of himself. Fate brings these two lost souls together as they both try to move on and live the lives they were meant to live.

This move is funny and touching. Both Omar Cy and Charlotte Gainsbourg are great. The movie is very topical due to so much focus on immigration today. This movie takes a hard look at what it is like to live in the shadows. It is not glamorous. But, the movie is still funny. The cultural differences are on display and that is interesting. There is a little romance, a lot of humor and a satisfying ending. Definitely worth seeing so go see it!
