Runs 150 minutes

This is a biopic about Yves Saint Laurent (Gaspard Ulliel). It follows his life and career from 1967 to 1977 when most would say he was at the peak of his fashion career. He created fabulous clothes, poached other models to walk his runway and smoked like a chimney. People flocked around him. In fact, in 1977 the French tabloids heard a rumor that he had died. They actually came to see him for themselves to make sure he was really still alive. He was very eccentric. He had a loyal and longtime companion, Pierre Bergé (Jérémie Renier), who was in love with him. Yves flaunted his other relationships in front of him and Pierre basically had to manage Yves' life for him. At least he left the legacy of a beautiful brand of clothing and purses.

This was a very long movie. Most of it was watching Yves smoke, take drugs, hang out at clubs and have sex with his boyfriends. There were some scenes of him sketching clothes and the last runway show in the film was awesome. (It is interesting that the style of clothes he created in 1976 is once again popular today.) Those small sections of the film were good. The rest was just annoying. He actually killed his dog by leaving drugs around on the floor! The film was slightly chronological but there was no singuar storyline. It was just a bunch of scenes flowing into each other. After 150 minutes, I still can't tell you a whole lot about him. He was obviously gifted and also a little crazy. He was committed at one point. Anyway, there is another film called Yves Saint Laurent that I found to be a much better film about his whole life. I would see that one instead of this one.
