This movie depicts the days following the crucifixtion of Jesus through the eyes of the Roman Tribune Clavius (Joseph Fiennes), a non-believer. He is tasked with protecting and then finding the actual body of Jesus after the Resurrection in order to disprove the stories of a risen Messiah and maintain peace in the land. Obviously, this is a humbling and impossible mission. Through the eyes of Clavius, we see a man who undertakes a life-changing mission as he searches for Jesus' body and comes to understand that Jesus is really the risen Messiah afterall.
This is an original way to tell the true story of the Resurrection. It is not preachy. It is more like a Biblical quest or journey as Clavius searches for Jesus' body and eventually comes face to face with the Apostles and eventually the risen Messiah (Cliff Curtis). There is Pontias Pilate (Peter Firth) who sends Clavius on the quest and there are the angry Jews who want to stop all mention of the Messiah. It is really fascinating. If you like Biblical dramas, then this will be for you. It is well-done and well-produced. Very inspiring and suitable for the entire family. My only small complaint is that it seemed pretty slow in the middle. Other than that, great Biblical drama! Go see it!
