Meryl Streep is Ricki, a former suburban housewife who leaves her family behind for a life of Rock-and-Roll. Of course, the dream was always better than the reality. She and her band, the Flash, perform at a rundown venue and she works in a supermarket to make ends meet. Greg (Rick Springfield) performs in her band and loves Ricki, but she continues to push him away. Then she gets a call from her ex-husband Pete (Kevin Kline) that her daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer) is suffering from major depression after her husband leaves her for another woman. Ricki decides that enough time has pased that maybe she can return home and set things right. Will she be able to help her daughter and make amends? Will she realize that what she has with Greg is the real deal?

As usual, Meryl Streep is great in this movie. She performs quite a few musical numbers. It is fun to see Rick Springfield back up on the stage, too. The movie deals with some tough issues, but with humor and music. It is predictable but still fun and entertaining. And, the music is pretty good. Everyone knows that Meryl can sing. She does a fine job with some rock classics and a new song written just for the movie. Go see it and you will leave the theatre humming. A fun time.
