This is a documentary about the famed Russian Red Army Hockey Team. It is told through interviews with some of it's most famous players, especially Vyacheslav "Slava" Fetisov, the Captain of the team for many years. Most of the players were recruited as children and trained and lived hockey their whole lives. When the team lost to the United States in the 1980 Olympics, a new coach was brought in and the players began training 11 months of the year. Most of the players formed lasting friendships, but once the NHL began recruiting the players, things began to change. The rise and fall of the Russian hockey team follows closely the rise and fall of the Russian nation.

This is a fascinating documentary. Even if you don't like sports, it is still interesting to see how these kids were chosen for the team and trained to be the best. It is also compelling to see that most of the players returned back to their native Russia and now work in some sports capacity. Slava was appointed to the Sports Ministry by Vladimir Putin. Hmmmm? I think I would have defected. But anyway, I liked the movie and I would highly recommend it if you like documentaries.
