The Bowens are having to downsize into a new home. Eric Bowen (Sam Rockwell) just got laid off from his job and Amy Bowen (Rosemarie DeWitt) is a fulltime mother and sometime writer with no income. Unfortunately, the Realtor didn't tell them that their new home was built right on top of an old cemetery. Griffin, the son, notices that things seem strange right away. His younger sister Madison seems to be talking to things that are not visible and the clowns he discovers in his attic cubbyhole turn out to be not so friendly. One night when older sister Kendra is babysitting, Madison is abducted by some kind of angry spirit. The family must rally together and with the help of the paranormal pyschology department from the local college, try to bring Madison back from the clutches of the Poltergeist.

They're here! This is a remake of the movie you might remember from your younger days. It is basically the same movie as the original, but with better special effects and updated technology. I thought Sam Rockwell was hilarious. He made the movie watchable because everything he said was funny. That took a lot of the edge off. The movie was creepy and had a sense of dread, but it was never that scary. So, if you are looking to be scared out of your socks, this probably won't do it. It is an average flick with a little horror and a little humor. If you love Sam Rockwell, you might like this. Otherwise, it is pretty average. Maybe hit the matinee.
