Jill's Review

Opens December 5, 2014

Runs 80 minutes

This movie begins with the story of a penguin rescued from the Golden Gate bridge. Gigi (for Golden Gate) is captured after blocking traffic and taken to a rehab clinic. There she will be cared for until she can be released back into the wild. Judy Irving follows Gigi's story as well as that of several other pelicans at various rehab centers. Gigi is a California brown pelican and Judy takes us to her probable breeding ground and opens our eyes to the challenges that Pelicans face in the wild. We see how they fish for food, migrate and breed. We see how they depend on their wings for survival. And, how caring people help rescue, rehab and release pelicans.

This movie is mostly a nature documentary. It is a fascinating look at how pelicans live, breed, catch their food and fly. If a Pelican can't fly, it can't live in the wild. Once Gigi is able to fly on her own, she is released back into the wild and we see her soar off with several of her pelican friends. This is a very interesting movie. If you love animals like me, you can't help but be drawn into Gigi's story and that of her pelican friends. Go see it!
