It is AD 67 and Nero rules Rome with an iron thumb. He is murdering Christians left and right, determined to be rid of all of them. Paul (James Faulkner) has been imprisoned in the darkest, dankest dungeon below the city and is awaiting trial. Luke (Jim Caviezel) comes to Rome to unite with the Christian community there and to visit Paul in prison. You see Paul was once a non-believer himself and was personally responsible for the death of Christians. But, he had an amazing transformation. He was a witness to Jesus' teachings and he traveled for 30 years spreading the Gospel. Luke risks his life to visit Paul in prison to document this amazing story - the beginning of the "church". Can Luke finish the story before it is too late?

This is a very well made movie. It is somber and meditative - it is not light and fluffy. It is true to the times. The acting is very good. Jim Caviezel always adds gravitas to his roles. And, James Faulkner and Oliver Martinez provide additional star quality. This movie really depicts the persecution Christians faced for their faith. But, they knew that Jesus Christ lived, died and was resurrected. They were his followers. Paul agonized in prison. Luke risked imprisonment himself to tell Paul's incredible story. You see Paul was a witness to Jesus' teachings and Luke was determined to write down his story before it was too late. The end result was the Book of Acts in the New Testament and the beginning of the "church" as we know it today. What an amazing story. Go see it.
