Three sisters live together in the old family home in Kamakura. Sachi, the eldest, is a nurse at the nearby hospital. She is serious and feels the weight of caring for Yoshino and Chika, her two younger sisters. You see, their father ran off with another woman 15 years ago. And their Mother, feeling angry and abandoned, abdicated her responsibilities, as well. They take care of each other and live a happy life. Then, they learn that their Father has died. Even though they haven't seen him in 15 years and consider him a traitor, they decide to travel to Yamagata to attend his funeral. There they meet their half-sister Suzu who is only 13 and feeling very lost. Without much thought, they invite Suzu to move to Kamakura to live with them. Their lives will all be affected by this lovely and intelligent young woman.

The Husband and I both really liked this movie. It is a look into the lives of these sisters and how they are all affected by their new half-sister. There isn't a whole lot going on but you grow to care for these sisters. And, as the story slowly unfolds, you feel for them - how they were abandoned and how they picked up the pieces and continued to carry on. It feels like real life. There is humor, anger and grief. But, most of all, there is abiding love between all of the girls. If you like foreign films, this might be a good one to check out. It is slowly paced but never boring. Go see it.
