The Live Action Shorts that are up for the Oscar Include:

  • Mindenki (Sing) (Hungary 25 minutes)
  • Timecode (France 15 minutes)
  • Silent Nights (Denmark 30 minutes)
  • Ennemis Interieurs (Enemies Within) (France 27 minutes)
  • La Femme et le TGV (The Railroad Lady) (France/Switzlerland 30 minutes)

I loved all of these short films. Mindenki was about a children's choir. Everyone was allowed to join but if you couldn't sing, the teacher made her pupils mime the words. Cute and entertaining story. Timecode was a shot little film about two people who watched security cameras for a living and only passed each other as one was coming to work and the other was leaving. Then, they started leaving little filmed messages for each other. Light and funny. Silent Nights was about a refugee trying to make money in Denmark. He meets a young volunteer at the Homeless Shelter and she tries to help him. Things turn romantic only he might not be what he seems. Very good, sad and touching. Enemies Within deals with an immigration issue. An Albanian man has applied for French Citizenshp. You see he was born in Albania when it was a French colony and has lived in France most of his life. This turns contentious when the questioning gets very personal. Thought-provoking. Finally, The Railroad Lady is loosely based on a true story of a woman who starts up a correspondence with a Train engineer as he passes her house daily. He throws her notes and she responds. Cute and sweet.

I really liked all of these so you will have to see them for yourself and pick your own favorite.
