Jill's Review

Runs 108 minutes

Alain (Guillaume Canet) is a publisher. He is married to Selena (Juliette Binoche) an actress. Leonard (Vincent Macaigne) is a writer and Alain's client. He is married to Valerie (Nora Hamzawi) while also sleeping with Selena. Alain has decided not to publish Leonard's latest book. The couples hang out together along with others to lament the changing book publishing business, middle age and just life.

This is billed as a romantic comedy. While it is funny in parts, it isn't the least bit romantic. All of the main couples are having affairs. I guess the film is just very French. There were plenty of conversations about book publishing and who is still reading books, preferences between paper and kindle and all kinds of book related discussions. Some of this was interesting and even humorous. But that is all these people talked about. The film just dragged along. I kept hoping for more but it never happened. Not really very entertaining. The acting was fine. I always like Juliette Binoche but this film didn't live up to her talent (although there was a funny inside joke about getting "Juliette Binoche" to narrate an ebook. Ha.) Anyway, I would skip this one.
