Freddie Steinmark (Finn Wittrock) is an undersized, but big-hearted, over-achieving football player. HIs dream is to play for Notre Dame. When all he is offered is a scholarship to play for Darrell Royal (Aaron Eckhart) at the University of Texas with his best friend Bobby Mitchell (Rett Terrell), he jumps at the chance and heads to Texas. His girlfriend Linda (Sarah Bolger) gets accepted and follows him there. It is the late 1960's and there is plenty of unrest regarding Vietnam, but Freddie only has time for football and Linda. He works harder than anyone else and by his sophmore year, he is a starter and leading his team. By his junior year, the Longhorns are National Champions but Freddie is struggling with an injury which will eventually lead to the biggest challenge of his young life. Freddie became an inspiration to everyone and as Darrell Royal said, Freddie wasn't an All American but he was "My All American".

This is a great family movie. It probably has more appeal to Texans (and Longhorns, in particular) but it is still a true and inspiring story. It is great for the whole family. It is fun to see flashbacks to the old Southwest conference and the way everything used to look in the late 1960's. This is also a sad story. If you don't already know it, then just be prepared and take some kleenex. Overall, you can't help but be inspired by an undersized kid who worked harder than anyone to achieve his dreams. Go see it.
