Starring Romain Duris and Audrey Tautou as Colin and Chloe who meet cute, have a whirlwind romance and get married. Everything is great until Chloe falls ill with a strange condition. It seems that a Water Lily has begun to grow in her lung. Colin must surround her with huge amounts of fresh flowers just to keep her breathing. As he spares no expense to take care of Chloe, he is forced to take on various strange jobs to earn money. At first it appears that maybe Chloe is improving, but as the walls literally close in on the couple, she begins to worsen and he can only watch helplessly.
This movie is supposed to be delightful and whimsical before it turns dark. It really just gets tiresome. Romain Duris and Audrey Tautou are both fine actors and they give it their all but the movie is just too random. There is a mouse, played by a person (I guess for comic effect?). Colin has invented a Pianocktail (A piano that makes cocktails according to the music you play?). Again, just a lot of randomness. I really liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MInd, also directed by Michel Gondry, so I was willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt. It came up short. Not worth the price of admission to me. Skip it.
