Runs 104 minutes

Tripp (Lucas Till) is tired of small town life and is just ready to be done with school and on his way to anywhere else. He has been working at the town dump and using spare parts to rebuild his old truck. When a drilling accident causes an explosion, Reece (Rob Lowe) head of the Energy company doing the drilling just wants to clean up and get back to the oil. But, the explosion somehow releases a new breed of subterranean creature. Reece orders the creatures to be captured immediately but one makes its way to Tripp. Soon, Tripp has retrofitted his truck to hide the monster and he finds out that the monster has a need for speed. When his biology tutor Meredith (Jane Levy) shows up unexpectedly, he lets her in on the secret and togther they work to get these creatures back where they belong.

I am probably the only person who really liked this movie. (Although all of the kids in the theatre with me seemed to like it, too.) It is really cute. It has the evil company that runs the town, headed by the always good-looking Rob Lowe. The loner kid who just wants to get done with school and get out of town. And, the cutest tentacled, subterranean creatures ever. I am a sucker for a cute animal. It has a decent plot - Good vs. evil. And, plenty of good-looking and talented people in the cast (including Amy Ryan, Barry Pepper, Danny Glover and did I mention Rob Lowe?). It is fun and fast-paced. Parts will drive you a little crazy (like when Tripp is driving his "monster truck" through town and he takes out at least half a dozen vehicles. Uh - where are the police when you need them?). But, overall, it is just fun and enjoyable for the whole family. Not Oscar caliber but not bad for a rainy Saturday afternoon. Take the kids and just have fun.
