Lee Gates (George Clooney) is the host of Money Monster, a show about the financial markets. He is funny, charming and entertaining. When he is taken hostage by Kyle Budwell (Jack O'Connell) on live TV, things immediately take a serious turn. While Lee is held at gunpoint and forced to wear a bomb vest, Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts) his producer must work behind the scenes to keep everyone calm and try to diffuse the situation. Once it is determined that Kyle feels he has been mislead by Lee and has lost all of his money on an investment in IBIS Capital that Lee recommended, Lee and Patty must try to sort out the facts and see what really happened. It turns out that there might be a conspiracy at the highest level of IBIS and no one can locate the CEO, Walt Camby (Dominic West). Racing against the clock and the fast-paced high tech markets, they must sprint to figure out what is going on before anyone ends up dead.

The Husband and I loved this movie. It is fast-paced, funny and has a very timely and engaging plot. It is directed by Jodie Foster and she does an excellent job on this action-packed thriller. The plot is serious and smart but it is laid out in such a way that it is exciting and accessible. George and Julia have amazing chemistry together. I really thought that this was one of George's better performances - he really lets loose and has a good time with this character. Of course, it turns serious but still maintains its sardonic humor. It is not quite as deep as the Big Short, but it is about corporate greed and the financial markets. Loved the film. Go see it!!
