Marine Sniper Mike (Armie Hammer) and his spotter Tommy (Tom Cullen) are on a mission to take out a dangerous terrorist in the middle of the desert. Mike hesitates when he sees that the terrorist has arrived to attend a wedding. Soon, the situation changes and they are unable to obtain their target. They call for extraction but their location cannot be identified. They decide to hike to the nearest town to await transport. However, little did they know that this desert contains 33 million blast mines scattered under the sand. Tommy discovers this the hard way. As Mike is making his way to Tommy, he hears the loud click of a land mine. He is standing on a mine and cannot move his foot or the mine will certainly kill him. He radios for help but due to dust and sand storms, the nearest help is 52 hours away. Mike must use every bit of his training to survive the brutal daytime sun and heat of the desert and the freezing cold of the night. Not, to mention the starving wild animals he hears in the dark. Can Mike maintain his sanity and keep his foot on the mine until help arrives?

This movie surprised me. The Husband and I liked it a lot. Armie Hammer was really good. He was handsome and serious, angry and scared and then a little crazy. He did a great job. It isn't a deep story but you learn a little in flashback about Mike and his girlfriend and why he even joined the military. You can feel the sand and grit and when Mike's lips get chapped and cracked, you can feel his pain. The wild animals are terrifying. It keeps you engaged for the whole film. It is a litte different take on the savage conditions of war. If you like smaller films that look at something from a different angle, then this might be for you. Go see it.
