Down on his luck sports agent J.B. Bernstein (John Hamm) has almost reached the end of the line. The clients are slowly retiring and he and his business partner Aash (Aasif Mandvi) are having trouble signing new ones. One night while randomly flipping tv channels, he is struck with an idea while watching cricket. Instead of searching for the next American talent, he will travel to India along with his veteran scout (Alan Arkin) and be the first to sign an Indian baseball player. Of course, there is just one small problem: no one plays baseball in India, they play cricket. So J.B. arranges a contest to attract the best bowlers (pitchers) in cricket. The contest, called Million Dollar Arm attracts over 40,000 hopefuls. At first it seems hopeless, but eventually two players stand out and win the contest to come to America for a tryout. With help from his lovely neighbor (Lake Bell), J.B. helps the boys overcome their culture shock and actually earn tryouts with the American Baseball League.
Based on a true story, this is inspiring and often funny as the boys learn about American culture and J.B. learns there is more to life than just the next client. A very enjoyable family film. Feel free to take the kids. Well worth the time.
